How To: Shelf Styling
One of the quickest and easiest ways to transform a space is through shelving!
While they are obviously great for storage, a cluttered and unorganized shelving unit can do some serious damage to the look of a space. Whether you are staging your home to sell or simply redecorating, creating a balanced and functional display can give a room a serious face-lift.

Balance
Balance is so so so important! You want to make sure that your shelving decor flows, so be sure to place your objects strategically! Simply re-working what you already have into a different layout can turn a cluttered display into a functional one! Keep material and colour in mind! For example, spread colours, textures and shapes out evenly.
Colour
When you’re styling a shelf, you want to make sure that you pick and stick to a colour palette. Choosing a few shades that compliment your room will really pull your shelving unit together. Styling your shelves can also be a great way to add some colour to a neutral space. I always recommend adding some greenery - real or faux. It’s one of my favourite ways to bring colour and life to a room.

Texture
Giving your shelving unit some texture is sure to catch a few eyes. A balance of smooth and textured objects will also help create depth. Try playing with woven baskets or wooden boxes. Not only will this add texture, but it will give you some extra storage as well!

Layering
Layering is also a great way to add depth to your display! Try using objects of varying heights, for example a tall painting or framed image, a medium-height vase and a low basket or sculptural object. Don’t be afraid to stack objects too! For example, stack a few books horizontally and place a low piece of pottery or vase on top!
Books
Whether you read them or not - books are the perfect touch to any shelving unit! I always recommend hard cover books with the jackets removed! This is such a classic look and will ensure the jackets don’t clash with your colour palette. Cookbooks are a must on kitchen shelves! Try stacking them horizontally and vertically!
Shelving is such an amazing feature in any home, but by following these tips you’re sure to create an eye-catching, functional unit that will breathe life back to your room!
With love,
