Simple Ways to Prep Your Home for the Market

With peak real-estate season slowly approaching, it’s time to start prepping your home for selling.

By following these simple, no-reno tips, you can put your home on the market with confidence.

Declutter

Decluttering and organizing your home is the perfect way to start prepping for showings and kickstart your own packing. Removing the clutter from tables, open shelving, floors and passage ways will make your home appear more spacious. Buyers will likely open every door and cabinet to check for storage space too, so don’t forget about junk drawers, kitchen pantries and closets. Remember, less is more!

Check out last week’s guide to decluterring and organizing your space here!

Deep Clean

This one may be obvious, but I cannot emphasize it enough! A deep clean can make a huge difference in the perception and worth of your home. Cleaning your home can take the attention away from imperfections, all while elevating the positive features. Not to mention it will make buyers feel much more welcome and at home!

De-personalize

One of the most important tasks you will want to make sure is on your prep list is to de-personalize your home. So grab a box and pack up you family photos, religious items, collectibles, and other personal items. Packing up all of the things that make your house your home can be difficult, but it will help buyers better envision their own belongings occupying that space! Remember - it’s not a goodbye, it’s a see you later!

Paint

One of the cheapest and easiest ways to update the look of your home is with some fresh paint. Make sure to stick to neutrals only, and choose a colour that goes well with any finishes and furnishes that are staying behind. Neutral walls can work with any style, making it an easy transition for new home-owners. Don’t forget to give your baseboards and any scuffs or dents a fresh coat too!

Eliminate Odours

Next on the prep list - eliminating odours! Before the showings begin, make sure to clean or remove anything that is causing an odour. Strong odours - good or bad - can be huge turn off to buyers, so be careful not to go too far overboard with scented candles and air fresheners either.

While it may seem like a hassle, deep cleaning, decluttering and re-painting your home will make it much more memorable and sought after.

Your realtor and buyers will thank you!

With love,

Kristina!
