6 Ways to Bring a Hallway to Life
Last week on the blog I shared some of my go-to tips for elevating front foyers and entrance ways - so this week I’ve decided to cover another area of the home that is often left-behind in the design department - hallways.
While it may not be on the top of your priority list, hallways are utilized everyday - often by guests too! And because they are generally a small space to work with - beautiful and functional hallways can be easy to achieve and pretty affordable!

Expand with Mirrors
Decorative mirrors are an excellent way to get the most out of narrow hallways and passages. Mirrors can be used to visually expand a space and they won’t take up any floor space. Mirrors with untraditional shapes or decorative frames can also be used to make quite a statement!

Stick To Neutrals
I always recommend neutrals because they are so much easier to work with and they make it a lot easier to switch around decor. Keeping your hallway colour scheme neutral will help open up the space, and neutral walls are a great canvas to work with. If you’re having trouble choosing- check out my neutral paint guide!

Decorative Flooring & Runners
Hallways and passages can easily limit your decor options. But one way to add some style to an area with limited space is through flooring. Patterned wood flooring or tile can be so fun and a great way touring life to an otherwise “empty” space. Herringbone flooring is one of my favourites - and also a great way to direct the flow of traffic! If you aren’t up for the commitment of new flooring, consider adding a decorative runner to your hallway. Not only will it protect your flooring, it can easily be exchanged if and when you decide to switch your style up.

Wall Art
Whether you’re hanging a painting, tapestry, or beautifully framed family photos - wall art can add texture, colour and depth to any hallway (without taking up too much space)! Check out my guide for choosing the perfect piece of wall art!

Wall Moulding
It can difficult to incorporate traditional furnishes into hallways and passages - especially if they do not offer a lot of space. One easy, eye-catching fix for this is wall moulding. Wall moulding is a timeless touch that instantly elevates the look of a space - without taking floor space. It also provides a visual transition between walls and ceilings, offering a more cohesive look and feel. As always, you will want to make sure that the type of crown moulding you choose complements your current furnishes and finishings.

Console Table
A great addition to any hallway - console tables are the perfect way to incorporate a few extra decor pieces in a tight space. Use the table as a resting place for vases, books, or greenery. They also generally don’t take up a lot of space (bonus!) - but make sure it isn’t disrupting the flow of your hallway.
