Feature Project: My Kitchen
I am so excited to be sharing this re-design of my OWN kitchen on this week’s blog! When I first shared this project on my Instagram page, I had so many questions about my selections - so I decided I would answer them here!
Flooring
I have some serious nightmares about the original tiling in this kitchen! Luckily we switched it out for wide plank luxury vinyl flooring. This flooring is so stunning and it’s also waterproof which is such a bonus in kitchens bathrooms, and laundry rooms.
Peninsula
We loved having a peninsula in our kitchen - but it definitely needed some upgrading! First we removed the dishwasher from the peninsula and installed it just to the left of the sink. We made use of the extra space by installing two banks of drawers, including a deep pot drawer and a built-in wine rack (yay!). We finished it off with a stunning and very durable quartz countertop was installed on the peninsula - and the perimeter.
Open Shelving
I definitely raised some eyebrows choosing to go with open shelving in my kitchen - but I absolutely love this modern farmhouse look. It’s also a great way to display my best pieces of dish-ware.
Cabinetry
The doors and colour of the original kitchen cabinets were extremely dated, so we switched them out for some fresh white doors. We opted to reface the lower cabinets which were still in great condition, and replaced the uppers with new ones. Removing the bulkhead and bringing the cabinets to the ceiling gave us some extra storage too!
A few final finishes to pull the space together…
- The ‘daisy’ backsplash was removed, and a classic subway tile was installed to the ceiling.
- The space was completed with a beautiful 36” gas cooktop!
- Fresh window trim
