Feature Project | Severn Cottage

Kitchen, dining & living room.

With cottage season quickly approaching - and hopefully some warmer weather too - I’ve decided to share one of my favourite cottage remodels. This cottage in Severn was such an amazing space to work with - the potential was endless!

We gave this home some serious updates leaving it with a fresh modern look and feel, while keeping a few finishes true to the rustic cottage feel.

Kitchen

One of my favourite kitchen before and afters to date! The over- all layout of the kitchen worked well, so we didn’t change it! Instead we started with some new waterproof luxury vinyl plank flooring - perfect for cottage lake-side living - and a fresh neutral paint on the pine paneling. We also stained the beams in the kitchen to complement the new flooring. Next we refaced the dated cabinets, and installed a beverage centre with an under-counter fridge and pot drawers for some extra functional storage.

We finished off the beverage centre and perimeter counter with beautiful brand-new quartz countertops with waterfall edges. To give the space a little bit of sparkle, we decided on a mosaic back-splash including marble, stone and glass. We then installed all new appliances, including a customizable range with brass knobs and handles to match the cabinet hardware and faucet. We finished the kitchen of with new pot lighting - perfect for showing off the kitchen’s new features too!

Dining Room

The dining area was so much fun to create. We replaced the original dining set with a new table and chairs to complement the design of the kitchen and connecting living room. With limited space, and a goal to keep the kitchen and dining room as open concept as possible, we decided on custom built-in bench seating for the other side of the dining set. A high performance fabric was also chosen to avoid wear-and-tear on the bench cushion!

Living Room

This living room seriously has it all! One of my favourite features in this space is the wood- burning stove and the beautiful stone in-lay behind it. To preserve this stunning feature and the rustic look and feel it gives the space - we decided to design custom built-in wall units to flank the stove and stone! We also extended the new flooring and fresh wall paint into the living room, covering up the original pine panelling, and replaced the pot lighting with an updated style. We also stained the beams in this room to complement the rest of the design. Next we installed an all new wet bar area with two mini-fridges for the perfect entertainment space! We finished the bar area off with a stunning durable granite countertop and waterfall edge.

Finally we furnished the space with all new furniture and decor accessories, including a beautiful marble coffee table!

We had so much turning this main level into a modern, but still cozy space that is just perfect for entertaining! Stay tuned for part two of this project coming to the blog soon...

With love,

Kristina
