Feature Project | Severn Cottage Part II

Master, Ensuite & Guest Bedrooms

In part one of the Severn Cottage blog, I shared the design details of the kitchen, dining room and living room. With the main floor looking fresh and beautiful, we took the fun upstairs and finished the cottage off with an updated master bedroom, ensuite, and guest bedrooms!

Master

This master bedroom got quite the facelift! For a seamless look, we carried through the same luxury vinyl plank flooring used on the main floor. We then removed all of the wood panelling and installed new drywall - giving the room a more modern look. We also decided to add a stunning distressed wood-plank accent wall to add some interest and texture to the space. The remaining walls were painted a neutral grey/blue colour to work with the bedding and linens.

For the perfect amount of contrast we opted for new furniture pieces in a lighter warm white, including a side table, dresser and bed frame - which looks amazing against the darker accent wall! We finished off the room with new bedding, linens, throw pillows, decor and a light area rug.

Ensuite

This ensuite transformation has to be one of my all-time favourites!

We kept the main layout, but extended the main wall to allow for a double vanity and replaced the tub with a new shower for improved functionality. For the shower we chose stone tiles for the floors, and large format 4’x 8' tile sheets for the walls. The shower was completed with a bench, steam system, and a large ceiling-mounted, rain-head shower head.

The floors were then replaced with a durable porcelain tile, and a beautiful quartz countertop was installed on the vanity. A warm grey paint was chosen to accent the veining in the tiles, and all new fixtures were installed in a matte back for some beautiful contrast. We finished off the ensuite with a matte black light fixture and a touch of wood detail for some warmth, which really complemented the wood from the adjoining master bedroom and helped tie the two spaces together!

Guest Bedrooms

Once again we kept things consistent and installed the luxury vinyl plank flooring in the guest bedrooms. A fresh coat of paint helped lighten up the rooms, giving them a more spacious look and feel. We kept the original beds, but added a few new furniture pieces to tie in the new design. We also kept the warm wood theme going by staining the ceiling beams in the additional upstairs rooms!

Finally we added some complementing decor, accessories, area rugs and wall art!

I hoped you loved reading about this project as much as I loved designing it!

With love,

Kristina
