Curb Appeal: How to Elevate Your Outdoor Space

As a home stager and interior designer, I mostly take care of the inside of a home. But when you’re prepping your home for the market it is crucial to take into consideration the outside of your home as well. Whether you’re sprucing up your front porch with a seasonal wreath, or simply keeping your lawn tidy, giving the outside of your home some TLC is sure to draw potential home-buyers in.

Keep It Clean

Tidiness is essential for curb appeal, and it truly sets the tone for a stunning first impression. Think kids toys, knick-knacks, and anything that might distract from the main focus which is your home. Less is more is the perfect ideology and also offers a great opportunity to clean up your exterior. An organized an clutter-free property promises to attract buyers from the outside, in!

A Splash of Colour

Another important aspect of curb appeal that will set your home apart from others is colour.  A splash of colour such as a painted front door, contrasting trim, or decorative art is sure. Get creative and decide where you want your focal point to be drawn to and then add your colour, such a simple but effective way to up your curb appeal.

Outdoor Furnishing

When it comes to the inside of your home, a functional, tidy, and stylish space will allow potential home-buyers and tenants to better envision themselves living there. It is no different with the outside of your home. If it’s in the budget, staging your front porch or back patio is a great way to show off the potential of your outdoor space. Styling an outdoor eating area or a small outdoor lounge will help elevate your curb appeal and highlight features that would otherwise be missed.

Complimentary Lighting

Lighting is the perfect finishing touch to the outside of your home. Changing outdated light fixtures for a fresh new set can go a long way in aiding your curb appeal. Recessed pot lighting can give your home the perfect facelift as it brings warmth while increasing the curb appeal. No one finds a dark, poorly light exterior enticing, and adding lighting to your home can make a world of difference. For a more inexpensive fix, add garden lights for some charm!

Go Green

Greenery is one of my favourite ways to freshen up any space! Adding some fresh potted plants, pretty hanging baskets or a simple wreath to your door can go a long way. Try to set the tone for home with stylish baskets and pots as well! Greenery is also a great way to bring the nature to you if your home is located in the city.

With the outside of your home in top shape, potential home-buyers and tenants are sure to be checking for the next available showing!

Happy selling!
