From the area rugs, to the throw pillows, and all of the smaller accents in between - living rooms are by far one of my favourite spaces to work with! And as one of the most utilized spaces in most homes, living rooms need all of the TLC they can get! That’s why I’ve put together my list of decor staples that all living rooms should have!
Something Alive
Greenery and flowers of any can breathe life into a space, while also brining the outdoors in for a more natural look and feel! Vases and planters for greenery can also be chosen to complement the overall design of your living room - but always keep size in mind for where your greenery is going to help fill in areas with colour.
Area Rug
Area rugs are a must for any living room! Not only can they help bring together the finishes and furnishes of your space through complementing colours, textures and patterns - but they can also help ground your furniture! Make sure to keep the material of your area rug in mind - how it feels under foot, durability and how it complements the design of your living room. Coffee Table
Coffee tables are perfect for balancing and connecting your furniture pieces. Try mixing colours, materials and shapes between coffee and end tables for more interest. Coffee tables also offer another spot to style some vases, greenery or books!
Something Personal
Nothing makes a living room more comfortable than something personal and close to your heart! Make your space your own and express what you love with family photos, travel finds, heirlooms, and favourite books. These items will show your personality and make your space unique!
Drapery & Window Coverings
For living rooms with windows and lots of natural light - drapery and window coverings can provide privacy and control lighting! Drapery can be the perfect final layer of complementing colour and texture to your space.
Throw Pillows
Throw pillows are one of my favourite decor pieces! They offer additional comfort and extra support. Throw pillows are also a great way to add colour, texture, and pattern to an existing design - without a large financial commitment! Candles
Candles are an inexpensive way to set a relaxing and inviting mood in any space! The scents and vessel can be chosen to complement your existing furnishes and finishes as well.
Throw Blankets
Just like throw pillows - throw blankets can add another layer of texture, colour and pattern! Items like this can make your space curated and visually interesting! Not to mention throw blankets are cozy and perfect for those couch days!
Mirrors
Mirrors can add style and elegance to any space! A well placed mirror can even trick the eye to making a room appear larger and brighter by reflecting light for the perfect visual boost! Mirrors can be hung over fireplaces, sofas or can even lean against a wall. The frame and shape of your mirror can also be chosen to complement your existing design - try a wood frame for a more natural feel, or metal hardware for something a bit more chic!
Vases
Vases are the perfect accent decor - either alone or with flowers and greenery! Try playing around with different materials and colours to complement your colour palette and design! Think metals, glass or even wood! Large vases can also be placed on floors to help fill any awkward empty spaces.
