How to Style A Mantel: The Staples and Holiday Tips
Whether you’re prepping for the holidays, or looking to elevate your space in general - properly styling your mantel can be the fix you need! As the focal point of most rooms, mantelpieces are the perfect canvas for showcasing artwork, natural elements, and holiday decor!

Anchor your mantel with a bold centre piece! Often the largest element - your focal point should lead the rest of your mantle design, providing inspiration for the rest of the decor items. Consider hanging wall art or simply laying a mirror!
Create symmetry by displaying decor pieces of the same height on either side of your anchor piece for a more formal look.
Arrange decor pieces of varying shapes and sizes in groups of odd numbers for a an asymmetrical, laid-back style.
Holiday Tip: Opt for a focal point with holiday colours and finishes. Choose pieces with silver, gold or brass frames, seasonal subject matter and bold reds, rich greens, or royal blues!

While they make the perfect focal point for any mantel - mirrors can also add height, drawing the eye upwards - and they can help open up a space. Try leaning a mirror rather than hanging one for a more casual look.
Holiday Tip: Add a simple real or faux natural garland around your mirror! Try eucalyptus, magnolia, berries, or evergreens - but make sure not to overwhelm your mantle with too much garland!

Natural elements are on of my favourite additions to any mantelpiece! Organic shapes ensure a visual flow, and natural textures such as wicker or wood complement the elements of a real or gas fireplace. Natural materials are also a great way to soften more dramatic metallics. Add wicker baskets, wooden bowls or candlesticks, or florals and greenery.
Holiday Tip: Opt for garlands or vases of winter greenery or red berries. Birch branches also make for the perfect winter touch!

Layering
Create visual interest and depth with layers! Try layering decor details such as candles, vases, books, and photo frames. Create groupings with decor details of varying heights - but be sure not to create clutter with too many small items.
Holiday Tip: Add an extra layer with natural or faux garland, or hanging stockings! Opt for decorative hooks and stockings that complement your current decor.
I hope these tips give you inspiration and guidance for your mantel styling this season!
