Entranceways and Foyers
When it comes to first impressions and setting the tone for the rest of your home - foyers and front entrances are one of the most important spaces when it comes design. They should never be overlooked!
We’ve already put together our list of Simple ways to elevate your front foyer - but we decided its was time to dive a little deeper and share some of our favourite entranceways - and spill the design details on how exactly these looks were achieved.
Look 01 | Open Concept
The first look in this round up is this cozy entry way designed by The Ginger Home. Designing an entrance that leads directly into a living space can be tricky - but we love the way they have made this space work.

Functional Separation | The first thing that stands out in this space is the half-wall that was installed to separate the entrance from the living space. This can help minimize disruption from foot-traffic coming in and out - but ensures the flow if the entire space is kept in tact. It also offers additional storage space for shoes and bags that would have otherwise resulted in a cluttered floor- space. Alternatively a large bench, hutch or storage unit would do the trick!
Flooring | The off-white tile flooring that was chosen offers a beautiful contrast to the dark hardwood in the living room - while also contributing to the look and feel of a larger space. Tile floors are also much more durable - perfect for when the outdoor elements get dragged in.
Complementing Colours | With open concept foyers, it’s all about finding the perfect balance of design details that make the space stand out while also complementing the connecting rooms. For example, take a look at how the throw pillow in the entry way complements the drapes in the living space! Subtle, but it draws the eye.
Look 02 | Neat and Narrow
When it comes to styling narrow entrance ways, people either over-crowd the space with furniture and decor items - or skip it entirely. This look by The DIY Mommy is the perfect example of how a “hall-way” entrance can be transformed into a functional and beautiful space.

Mirrors | If you’ve been keeping up with the blog, you will know that mirrors are one of the best items to add to any room when you’re trying to maximize space. Mirrors reflect light, making the space brighter during the day and at night - as well as add the illusion of depth. The round mirror also helps soften the sharp angles and edges of the cabinets and board and batten.
Smart Storage | Reserve as much floor space as possible for foot traffic with functional storage units like this one! We love these cabinets floats just above the base-boards - offering a clean and modern look. The top of the unit is also just wide enough to display some complementary decor items and additional storage baskets.
Wall Features | Another way to spice up an entranceway with limited floor space is by adding interest to ordinary walls. Board and batten is all the rage these days and this look shows us why! Not only does it add interest and texture to the space, but the pattern complements the cabinets just below it as well. If you’re feeling bold - paint your board and batten with stunning shade that complements your colour scheme.
Look 03 | A Grand Entrance
The final look in our round-up is this clean and inviting design by Chango & Co. This foyer offers a refreshing and breathable space with plenty of room for carefully selected design finishes and furnishes.

Area Rug | Visual boundaries are so important in large, open-concept spaces like this one. The area rug in this foyer helps ground the space and adds texture and warmth. The natural material that was chosen complements the overall style - balancing the metallic textures found in the door handle, bench and mirrors.
Additional Lighting | Lighting can truly make or break a space! With or without an overhead light fixture - additional light sources can create an inviting ambiance, especial in the evenings or when entertaining guests. The lamps chosen for this look are such a beautiful shape, and offer a subtle splash of colour to an otherwise neutral space. The shades that were chosen also work really well the other natural textures in the space.
Seating | Seating in a foyer is always a great idea- especially if the space allows for it. A modern wooden bench with cool metallic finishes was chosen for this look. Mixing metals is no easy task but so worth it when done right. We love how they’ve chosen a bench with cool metal despite the brushed gold door handle. Simple and clean - the “see-through” base of this bench also keeps the space looking and feeling open.
We hope these looks have inspired to get innovative and bold with your foyers - no matter their shape or size!
Happy decorating, Kristina
